Two-year renewal
For patients who've held an Oklahoma license
When to renew
Adult patient licenses are valid for up to two years. We recommend booking your renewal visit 30 to 45 days before your expiration date. That leaves time for OMMA's review, which state law caps at 14 business days for a complete application, without a gap in coverage.
Timing matters because your physician recommendation must reach OMMA within 30 days of the date it's signed. Book too early and the recommendation expires before you apply; too late and your license may lapse. Patients who get their card through us receive a reminder 45 days before expiration.
What renewal costs
| Item | Standard | Reduced state fee |
|---|---|---|
| Renewal evaluation (to us) | $99.00 | $99.00 |
| OMMA application fee + card processing | $104.30 | $22.50 |
| Total for two more years | $203.30 | $121.50 |
Our $99 renewal price applies to anyone who has held an Oklahoma patient license before, whether we wrote your original recommendation or not.
Renew with an OMMA-registered physician by video or phone in about 15 minutes. $99 for two more years.
When you're charged
When you book a renewal, we place a $99 authorization hold on your card. It's not a charge. We capture the payment only after your physician approves and signs your renewal recommendation. If you're not approved, we release the hold the same day, and your bank typically clears it within 3 to 7 business days.
How to renew
- Book a renewal visit. Choose "Renewal" when booking, have your Oklahoma ID and current license number handy.
- Meet with your physician by video or phone. We'll review how cannabis has worked for you, any changes in your health or medications, and whether your current products and doses still make sense.
- Get your signed recommendation. Approved patients usually receive it the same day by secure email.
- Submit your renewal in the OMMA MedPortal. Sign in with your existing account, open your license dashboard, start the patient renewal, upload your new recommendation and any updated documents, and pay the state fee.
- Watch for OMMA's approval email. Dispensaries may accept it with your photo ID until the new card arrives.
Renewal checklist
- Your OMMA MedPortal login (reset your password ahead of time if needed)
- Your new physician recommendation, dated within 30 days
- A valid Oklahoma driver's license or state ID
- Updated proof of residency if you've moved
- A current photo, if yours has changed significantly
- Proof of Medicaid, Medicare or 100% disabled veteran status for the reduced fee
- A Visa, Mastercard or Discover card for the state fee
What's changed since your last card
If you last renewed in 2024, the biggest change is Senate Bill 1066. Since January 1, 2026, only physicians who have completed OMMA-approved education and registered with OMMA may recommend medical marijuana. If the clinic that wrote your last recommendation hasn't registered its physicians, OMMA will reject a recommendation from them. Every physician at Oklahoma Cannabis Clinic is registered.
OMMA also now lets dispensaries accept your official approval email or MedPortal approval, together with a photo ID, while your new card is being mailed.

Your renewal visit is also a check-up
Two years is a long time. We use your renewal visit to review whether cannabis is still helping, whether your dose has crept up, any new medications that could interact, and changes like pregnancy, a new job with drug testing, or new health conditions. It's a chance to fine-tune your approach, not just sign a form.
If your card has already expired
You can still renew; the process is the same. But from the moment your license expires until OMMA approves your renewal, you're not legally protected to buy, possess or grow marijuana in Oklahoma. Pause purchases and secure or remove plants until you're approved.
Renewal questions
How long is an Oklahoma medical marijuana card valid?
A standard adult patient license is valid for up to two years from the date OMMA issues it. Short-term licenses last up to 60 days and out-of-state temporary licenses up to 30 days.
Do I need a new physician recommendation to renew?
Yes. Every renewal requires a new recommendation signed by an OMMA-registered physician and submitted to OMMA within 30 days of the signature date.
My card already expired. Can I still use the $99 renewal price?
Yes. If you've held an Oklahoma patient license before, you qualify for our $99 renewal evaluation even if it has lapsed. You have no legal protection to possess or buy marijuana between the expiration date and your new approval.
Is the state fee lower for renewals?
No. OMMA charges the same fee for renewals as for new applications: $100 plus card processing, or $20 plus processing for qualifying Medicaid, Medicare or 100% disabled veteran patients.
Can I renew if my previous doctor wasn't registered with OMMA?
Yes. Your existing license stays valid until it expires. For your renewal, you'll need a recommendation from a physician who is registered under SB 1066, which every physician at our clinic is.
I moved within Oklahoma. What do I need?
Upload proof of your new address, such as an updated Oklahoma ID, a recent utility bill, a lease or a deed, with your renewal application.
I lost my card. Do I need to renew?
No. A lost or damaged card can be replaced through the OMMA MedPortal without a new recommendation. Check OMMA's site for the current replacement process and fee.
